Eczema has three cyclic periods. Each period shows itself with different complaints.

Is Eczema contagious?

No, eczema is a non-contagious disease. But it is an invasive disease in the person’s body.

What are the types of Eczama?

Eczema is called with different names according to the region in which it is formed.

Seborrheic eczema: The most common eczema. It is characterized by red surface, yellow crusting or white flaking on the face. It can be mixed with dry skin by people who are not dermatologists and may be exacerbated by wrong treatment methods. Nose, mouth and percentage are seen more.

Atopic eczema: It occurs if you have genetic predisposition to atopic eczama. The first sign is a bright red rash on both cheeks that spreads as a ‘lacy’ rash on the body and limbs.  Afterwards, it can be seen in the whole body although they are common in the inner parts of the knees and elbows.

Contact eczema: It occurs as a result of direct and frequent contact with a chemical and irritant substance.

With early diagnosis and treatment, eczema can be treated or the progression of eczema can be prevented.

What is the cause of eczema?

Eczama develop due to a combination of genetic and environmental factors. One of the most common cause of eczema is contact with detergent, soaps, hair dyes, cosmetics, toothpastes and shampoos. While these chemicals do not cause the same effect on everyone, it triggers irritant or allergic mechanisms in some people and this causes eczema.

How is the treatment of eczema done?

One of the most important point is not to scratch the lesion. Patient  must stay away from people with herpes because the area of eczema is open to the viruses.

The eczema area is sensitive, therefore patient should avoid contact with irritants. If the allergy-causing substance is known, it is sufficient to protect the patient from that substance.

Zinc compounds and cortisone skin ointments are used in eczema treatment. In addition, antihistaminic ointments are used to reduce the itching. Moreover, oily ointments are used to prevent eczema from drying and cracking the skin.

Especially during the treatment of atopic eczema, the most effective treatment is the use of creams containing cortisone. In severe atopic dermatitis, local treatment is insufficient. In this case, the treatments like cortisone injection, cyclosporine and ultraviolet ray will be added to the process.
